"One is struck by the politicized incompetence of the authorities."

Reading of the latest “Allahu Akhbar!” attacks, so far this week, in Germany, Turkey, Jordan, Libya, and Switzerland, one is struck by the politicized incompetence of the authorities.
This is true both West and East. News reports carry information that even I know they should not be carrying, about police suspicions. We learn that — at the usual frightful expense — additional security measures are in place at e.g. Christmas markets in several hundred cities, including a couple of miles away in this one. The idea is to put the general public back to sleep, as quickly as possible.
Apart from the enemy, however, I do not know who can benefit from such information. Too, unnecessary “editorial advice” is provided to the news agencies, not only to keep their language ideologically hygienic, but more systematically to slant and select what is presented. In particular: doubt must be cast on the motives of the perpetrators, and Muslim celebrations of the attacks must be ignored. Recovery : Essays in Idleness

We cannot do anything about Europe, but learn the lesson they have, too late.

Here I am at my sister's house in Seattle watching the news. Even here there is some reaction to the most recent truck-based attack in Germany. The police at some nearby winter-themed event (parade or some such) are deploying with rifles and SWAT-type gear to keep an eye on things, not with knowledge of any specific terrorist threat, but just on the principle that such public events are likely targets for terrorists these days. Of course, they never really used the word "terrorist", much less the words "muslim" or "Islamic" anywhere in the news report.

Follow the link to the entire article. It's not what I expected.

Watching Jeopardy during supper the other night on our "over the air" TV and a crawler popped up across the bottom of the screen with an "Amber Alert" about a missing 13 yo boy in a big city 60 miles away.

Really?

Apparently that's "news" to somebody, so therefore EVERYBODY has to be informed.

When I was 13 I was missing all the time and as far as I know not even the neighbor was alerted to it.

News today is anything but, and there's WAY too much of it. They are trying to justify their existence with mostly stale hot air.

Off topic, my apologies.

But what's happened to Happy Acres?

I have no way to contact him.

I was a juvenile delinquent in my youth as well. No Amber alerts, just pissed off truant officers and a judge who finally removed us from my dad's care. We were much better behaved at St. Thomas Orphanage, let me tell you. The good nuns' idea of justice was to wash the first floor tall windows. On Saturday.

I am going to be a real outlier here and say that so far the information made known about Andrey Karlov's murderer does not lead to concluding he was an Islamist radical killing for Islamism's advance.

In the video I saw, I heard him say, "Allahu akbar" exactly one time. Islamists did not make that up, it's been said across the Muslim-Arab world since the time of Muhammed. It's reflexively said by Arab Muslims whenever they are about to do something even mildly daring and usually has about the same genuine religious connotation as how we say, "Wish me luck" or "Here goes nothing."

My guess is that the shooter was an anti-Assad fanatic more than any kind of Islamist fanatic.

That said, it's interesting that even CNN makes an Islamist link: "Ambassador shooting highlights Russia's long fight with Islamic radicals."

There is a real lack of respect for life from these middle eastern countries. They are spilling over to Europe and America, and many are bringing their cheap view of life with them.

I remember when John Kerry was running for President and said something to the effect that he wanted to "get terrorism back to just the nuisance level". That will be hard to do when we continue to invite the killers to our dinner tables.

Getting john Kerry back to a nuisance level is a step in the right direction. His Clown Boss is short timing now, but with no end of mischief committed until he's gone.
