Choking Portland with Light Rail

The last new highway built in Portland opened in 1975.
Since then, the city’s population has grown by nearly 60 percent, and the region’s population has more than doubled. Rather than build the transportation infrastructure needed to accommodate these people, Portland has built five light-rail lines and two streetcar lines. As of 2014, these rail lines carried just 8,500 of the city’s 301,000 commuters to work. | The Antiplanner

That's okay, everyone has bicycles! And now they have rent a bike stations all over the place. They don't understand the concept of truck traffic.

Not to worry, they are trying to force my hometown across the river to have light rail. We've voted it down three times and they still keep pushing it.

Meanwhile in Detroit, a light rail is being built that goes up and down Woodward Avenue, from downtown to midtown, 3.3 miles. (By the way, Detroit planners "looked at Portland" when they were planning this boondog - uh - I mean link to the future). The planners have insisted for years that Detroit needs better mass transit, like this incredible light rail, in order to attract middle-class people to the city. How many buses could have been purchased to open up how many new bus routes is a question we're not supposed to ask. http://m-1rail.com/

Well of course "they" need light rail and any other system capable of moving not workers into the cities, but the 47% out to the suburbs for the next great "migration". Really though, it is just about getting the undesirables out of the valuable metropolitan centers and onto the backs of white suburbanites. Suburbia - the next ghetto.

Driving around Portland is like a joke. Not a very funny one. BTW Eugene OR is awful too.
