Hitler finished second, and why that is important

Most Germans (including those who voted for third- and fourth-party candidates) did not want Hitler.
But once the election was over, the politicians locked the doors and decided to make Hitler the vice chancellor. They assigned him powers that should have belonged to Hindenburg. The threat to democracy is not the people we elect, but the people we don't elect who assume the power.
