"The atmosphere of fiasco"

There is about the current international situation the atmosphere of fiasco. The Russia/Iran buildup continues, fueled as the Free Beacon notes by cash the Obama administration gave Tehran itself. Russia is now increasingly in command of the Syrian Army fighting beside an Iranian "foreign legion", eliciting nothing more than a squeak from the president. There are warnings it is now time to start preparing for the collapse of Saudi Arabia without the expectation of being able to prevent it. Remain Overnight | PJ Media

Your Say

My ol' gray haired Pappy used to say, "Son, look way ahead and all around you for trouble, then steer yourself away from it."

That suggestion has saved me more times than not.

RON, indeed.

Please get over Vietnam. Please. The Vietnam Syndrome, which is the main thing ailing Jim Webb, Rand Paul, and a host of other officials in Washington, is a fear of doing anything overseas that smells of quagmire. I have news for you: war is quagmire. The future is quagmire. F-n' deal with it.

I appreciate that the US military is trying to adopt von Clausewitz, and I am an adherent of his. But, the history of the American personality is to stay out of conflict. Also good, because that goes to our character.

Consider how Davy Crockett wanted nothing more than to go to another place, and fight Mexicans. He bought the farm doing it. The end result was the Lone Star State is a great part of the US, and not the hell hole that is Mexico.

Which hell hole will we make our own? The kind where Russia has ultimate sway over its near and far borders? Wouldn't it suck to see the Crimean War turned completely around, and Russia controlling the Bos Straits? Putin wants ports, power and - I'll leave out the final "p" word.

Why is a resurgent Russia bad? I mean, it's completely around the other side of the world from us, isn't it? I get real tired of saying this, but you gotta watch High Noon to really get it. If you run from a fight, the fight will come find you. Farkin ME jihadis are overrunning Europe, and coming into the USA, because we quit fighting them in the ME. That is plain to see. We didn't start it, but we damn sure will have to finish it.

Neocon me all you want. I've been con since Obama was popping zits in Asia. My politics are not as important to me as my military strategy. You can't deny gravity.

If a gov't handles it's domestic policy's poorly how in the world do you expect them to handle international policy's any better?

Ya gotta walk before you run and american politicians are voluntarily quadriplegic.

Everything they have ever submerged themselves in has been a disaster without exception.

They get paid very well in spite of their long history of poor performance so why should they improve themselves?

Agreed about this bunch. Would enjoy seeing President Trump, negotiating Putin into a corner. Add Gen. Petraeus as NSA, Gen. Mattis as SecDef, and Gen. Bill Carpenter at NATO. Now let's see how things start going for a change.
