Of Flying Cars and the Declining Rate of Profit

Where are the force fields, tractor beams, teleportation pods, antigravity sleds, tricorders, immortality drugs, colonies on Mars, and all the other technological wonders any child growing up in the mid-to-late twentieth century assumed would exist by now? Even those inventions that seemed ready to emerge—like cloning or cryogenics—ended up betraying their lofty promises. What happened to them? - The Baffler

Your Say

"Where are the force fields...."
================

Trapped inside my head where they were born but never cultivated.

"About one conclusion we can feel especially confident: it will not happen within the framework of contemporary corporate capitalism—or any form of capitalism." This is obviously and easily demonstrated to be total baloney.

Attention of our scientists was diverted to creating more important things such as: bikinis to be worn on ankles, octagonal tires/wheels to keep drivers awake at all speeds, inhalable laxatives for those having constipated cortices, robots indistinguishable from federal politicians/bureaucrats, impenetrable tax and smartphone password codes capable of bringing down all defenses against insanity, ... I'd say more but I sense the laxative working on me ...

Iron Mountain

Marduk — The Hidden Habitat of Harry Houdini. Oh, and Hendrix, Hoffa, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin.
Curt Cobain didn't make it.

My uncle Letsgo Lozko, y'all have heard of him, right? Mmm. I see, too secret for the common masses. During the Cold War Letsgo and his Bantam chickens were called back to active duty to conceal and store these engineering masterpieces. In fact, the force field was used to cover everything over.

The Bantam chickens guarding the secret codes to locate and unlock the marvels passed their portion of the unlock code to each generation of young chickens. We called them "Code Carriers".

It's obvious, eh? I'm spending too much time envisioning my life in terms of months rather than years.

Time to "reach out and capture the moment" as The CTA would sing.

Extra points, identify the band.
