[Bumped] My dad is dying, please help me pay for a budget cremation

Right now I am sitting next to the bed of my 99-year-old dad, Hubert P. Yockey, and for the next few hours or days, he is still one of the last living nuclear physicists of the Manhattan Project.
He shortened the war with Japan by improving the design of the Calutron, the machine used at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, to separate uranium for the atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima. After over 20 happy years caring for my late life partner, who died of complications of multiple sclerosis in 2004, I came back home in October 2006 to live with my dad and provide his care. But I need help from my friends to do my last service for him. I need to ask for donations to cover the cost of a budget cremation for him. — Cynthia Yockey, A Conservative Lesbian

Done.

Your Say

I ain't buyin' it. Something wrong in that gurlz head. If you gave her the $1275 for the cremation today, tomorrow she'd be begging again.

What is it with people today, they'd rather beg, than do? Begging used to have a negative connotation attached, a sign of personal weakness, something to avoid at all costs.

All these online "fund me" joints make begging stylish.

I'm not put off by these quite as much as ghost, but I can't bring myself to go for one unless it's someone I know or something I know about first-hand. So far I've helped with a grandson (starving musician) and a niece (teacher in a very poor school).

Okay, boys and girls, here's the deal.

I DON'T EVER put these up unless I personally know the person. Cynthia is good people and true blue and an ally of truth. Has been for years.

She's been caring for her father, night and day, for years and the circumstances of that care are such that she sails very close to the wind financially.

There is NOTHING about her that lines up with ghost's imagination.

This is primarily here for other bloggers who know Cynthia to be an ally from the early days.

Imagination hell, her own words reveal her true character and you have the gall to openly admit to being buffaloed by her for years?

Posted by: ghostsniper [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 29, 2016 3:46 PM

Ghost, has no one ever been kind to you?

Posted by: Leslie [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 29, 2016 5:03 PM

Knock it off asshole this has nothing to do with me. This woman has no family, no friends, no anybody? She has no possessions to off load for cash? Her last resort is to go wholesale begging on the interweb? There are numerous ways a person can gather up a paltry sum of $1200 FAST if they truly wanted to. And there seems no shortage of blubbering dumbasses defending her. Guess what? You get MORE of what you encourage.
Out.

Leslie, I doubt he ever gives anyone the opportunity. By his own admission, he sizes everyone up and finds all their faults within seconds. And having found nobody who lacks a grievous assortment of flaws, he is confident in condemning everyone without fear of falsely impugning a just soul.

Juliecork said "everyone".
She thinks she gets to speak for me.
Hey Julie, nobody is all good nor is anybody all bad. The woman in the article chose to expose her bad points so that's all I could comment on.

That person is my age or probably older and in all that time she has been unable to acquire a measly $1200? Please. She's like many people now, live for today, fuck tomorrow.

Did you and Leslie donate a fair chunk to her cause? Or are you 2 just offering lip service?
IOW, put up or stfu.

Your word is good enough for me Mr. Van der Leun.

Here's the deal: you gotta give us that 411 first. Otherwise it's too easy to assume this is just another hard luck story.

But since you're vouching for her, that makes all the difference. Now I'll make a donation.

I'm in. It takes a lot of courage to ask like that.

Ghost: Draw your brakes kid. Get you a two-by-four and go out, beat on some trees.

Get some a that piss and vinegar outta you.

I'm disappointed Chas, that that is what you think courage is.

Posted by: ghostsniper [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 31, 2016 6:57 AM

Ghost You don't know what I think.

All of a sudden you're on the muscle, what's up with that?

As for disappointed, you'll get over it.

You should be thankful not everybody thinks like you.

Posted by: chasmatic [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 31, 2016 7:20 AM

I really don't give a shit Chas.

Posted by: ghostsniper [TypeKey Profile Page] at January 31, 2016 4:38 PM

Why should you?

Posted by: chasmatic [TypeKey Profile Page] at February 1, 2016 7:53 AM

Having lost both my mother-in-law and my father within months of each other, I can understand where she's coming from.
