Putin: “Should we need to get somebody, we can do so without a base.”

Putin was asked about whether Russia wanted to keep a base in Syria forever. Here is what he replied:
The Americans have destroyed their Pershing ground-based medium-range missiles as well. However, they have kept their sea- and aircraft-based Tomahawks. We did not have such missiles, but now we do – a 1,500-kilometre-range Kalibr sea-based missile and aircraft-carried Kh-101 missile with a 4,500-kilometre range. So why would we need a base there? Should we need to get somebody, we can do so without a base. Russian Intervention in Syria: A Step Back from the Brink? - The Unz Review

Your Say

Putin might be many things but being crazy isn't one of them. I'll change my mind when I see him take off his shoe and pound it on the table à lá Khrushchev.

Reading the article gives the Russian viewpoint, and the only take-away is that John Kerry is a puss and a loser consistently. We already know that.

No matter. Even with American policy not terminally averse to Assad, Assad still will not survive. But, like I said before, all Russia needs is to act and show a presence in Syria to win new influence. That is their Syria objective. They win whether they win or lose militarily in the field.

Sounds like Chuck Hegel just as much as indicated that Obama has no policy on Syria. Even better! Obama wins no matter what the outcome!

But do believe this: Syria is the Poland of our time, and by that I mean it is the turning point that plunges us into war. Congratulations, Obama.

That is one war we should ignore. Let the pussies in Europe fight it; they have many of the sub rosa troops in their borders now.

All we need to do is make sure that Israel kills anyone, man, women and child plus the pet goat transgressing their borders.

If Islam is a Religion of Peace, let the Muzzies kill the radical ragheads to prove it.

I think the reasons for defending Europe haven't changed since before WW II, except that we have a treaty obligation, now. Farm out our defense? Hmm. It works sometimes, but as you know if you want something done right...
