From Civilization and Its Enemies by Lee Harris

"Our first task is therefore to try to grasp what the concept of the enemy really means. The enemy is someone who is willing to die in order to kill you. And while it is true that the enemy always hates us for a reason, it is his reason, and not ours."

Your Say

Right.
The other guys reasons are irrelevant, he just needs to stay off my lawn.

The other guys reasons are indeed relevant, his "reason" comes from his ethics, not mine. He will not even consider the fact that he is a cannibal or a murderous Islamic inbred.

I don't give a shit about his consideration.
Or his ethics, his reasons, or anything else.

You better get your priorities right.

Ghost,

If you don't know your enemy's reasons, you don't even know who your enemy is.

Please don't shoot the paper boy.

My enemy is the one who seeks to harm me or mine.
Enough that I disempower him thoroughly first. Time enough then to discuss cultural differences.

Look, any number of reasons can be summoned to kill my ass and I'm not going to waste 1 second trying to figure out why, and anyone that does is setting their self up to be victimized.

Your thought process on this is flawed.

Stug is right, 'cept for that last part. I'm not interested in discussing shit with people bent on harming my ass.

This stuff is basic self survival and I can't comprehend walking this planet without it being perfectly clear in one's mind.

Hey you guys, the article is not about your personal defense but about "civilization and its enemies".

Take a look at what Obama has done in the Middle East. He has facilitated the removal of Mubarak and the death of Kadafi, and then armed the rebels against Asad in Syria. He has done this believing that the "Arab Spring" and a "democratic" Islamic State would be a good thing. This is a classic example of not considering the reasoning of the enemies of civilization and mistakenly shooting the paper boy.

American policy in the past (and I believe correctly) has always supported tyrants and dictators in the Middle East because it was the only way to keep a lid on the inherent evil of Islam and its murderous Jihadists without going to war.

In this context and in the subject of the article my reasoning about knowing your enemy is properly prioritized and is not flawed.

"....my reasoning about knowing your enemy is properly prioritized and is not flawed."
===============================

Yes it is flawed, but you seem unable to break loose from the media grasp on your brain.

Nobody in the ME is my enemy.

As far as I can tell the closest potential enemy is within about 10 miles at all times, sometimes much closer.

So we bristle with weaponry at all times.

That's just the way it is and lying to oneself about it is self defeating.

That which you fear the most is but a very small subsidiary of the much larger thing you don't seem to fear at all, in fact, you avoid thinking about it in it's entirety.

A heavily distorted quandry puzzle within a downwardly spiraling super-enigma.

Come on Ghost, the one who fears the most is the one who is paranoid about someone who steps on his lawn.

Friends, family, pets, and creatures are in our vast yard all day long - they are invited and welcomed. And if they get bored they are encouraged to grab a blower or rake and have at the 8 tons worth of muslim leaves all over it.

Think more, yap less.

Onward.
