Bird Dog's Got My Number & Sells Me On Fitness

A few more random fitness items for mostly-sedentary people: Hard and painful
Nature, indeed, wants to kill us after we have bred and ultimately will, but nobody wants to live life with the fitness of the gal behind the desk at the DMV - or of your accountant. Physically lazy is shameful and un-American. Sloth is one of the deadly sins. It seems to me that most people want to be in good, fit shape but do not really aspire to greater strength and power if it takes blood, sweat, and tears. They want what is called "functional" fitness and endurance. That's basically what I wish to maintain or to improve, too but I need a bit more strength and power to get there. Just a few more months, I think. I do not want to get nutty about it but I would like to inspire others.

Your Say

Maggie's Farm is making sound a bit more daunting than it really is. And strength training needn't be that formidable a task. Most of what one sees people doing ion a gym who are also dedicated to greater strength and size is superfluous. A few basic movements that involve large muscle groups are all that most people need to get significantly stronger.

Guess what?
If you eat 3000 calories per day you'll gain weight. You can live on 1500 easily.

3500 calories = 1 pound of actual weight

Most of the food you eat is nutritionally bankrupt. Eat better quality food (more expensive) and you'll find you need to eat less of it.

Sugar's only role in this life is to try to kill you, and it's in just about everything out there in one form or another.

I have exercised my whole life, but, now that I am older, I started doing barbell exercises again. I have been lifting-squats, lunges, overhead presses and dead lifts for about 6 months, and my back no longer aches and I feel so much more stable. Weight lifting really is the fountain of youth. It only takes me about 30 mins, 3 days a week.

Hat's off to Bird Dog and any of you folks that exercise. I'm limited as to what I can do but the thing is, do something. Get moving.
