Well Fred Z, I got my ass shot at in the Nam during two tours, worked all my life, voted Republican twice in my life: Goldwater and Reagan. I never voted for a Donkey.

Now there you go Fred, sticking your foot in your mouth. Parts of your post are good ideas, community participation, so forth. You should have stopped there.
There are a number of us commenters that are not young nor passive, and not pessimistic. After walking past dead bodies to get some c-rats pessimism loses its meaning.
I'm getting to the point, with the cancer and a wife disappearing to dementia, where I will stand up to anyone dissing me.
How far you want to go with this?
