The Hunt for Narco Subs

rtxbzre.jpg

The vessel cut a low profile as it slipped through international waters,
hundreds of miles off the coast of El Salvador in the eastern Pacific Ocean. It was mostly submerged, except for an exhaust pipe and a windowed cockpit that poked a few feet above water. Painted a dull blue-green, the 40-foot semi-submersible pressed on with a silent intent that belied its load: a diesel engine, fuel tanks, navigation equipment, four crew members, and 14,000 pounds of cocaine. - - Motherboard

Your Say

I sent an e-mail.

What a way to transport drugs; what a way to die if the weather went bad along any part of that voyage.

So the DEA now has seven tons of cocaine on its hands. I bet that's worth some bucks. I wonder if the White House gets a sample to ascertain its purity. No doubt it will all be destroyed in an environmentally sensitive manner so as not to contribute to pollution or global warming. No doubt at all.

I have to pause for a moment to grudgingly admire the ingenuity of it all.

And there is, after all, a huge market "up North" for the stuff being transported.

And my hat's off to the Coast Guard and whomever actually spotted the sucker. Just doing their job. As to whether this war needs to be fought? Another discussion.

If they can do it with drugs they can do it with nuclear materials.

They shipped 20,000 lbs but only 16,000 lbs were reported confiscated. 4,000 lbs of coke are presently being dispersed through gov't channels.

What, you thought the war on drugs was for your benefit, to keep you safe, or whatever?

silly knave......

Yeah, what both DonRodrigo and chasmatic said.

Prediction: we will see autonomous narco-subs delivering product before we see autonomous cars & trucks driving on our roads. A fascinating project to work on, actually.
