How peace-loving Wonder Woman became a goddess of war

wonderwomantop.jpg
Wonder Woman was by no means the first female superhero,
but she was perhaps the first who was designed to function primarily as a social message. Her creator, psychologist William Marston, intended her to be an antidote to what he had decided was "comics' worst offense... their blood-curdling masculinity." By this, he didn’t really mean that comics were too violent or stereotypically masculinized, but rather that they lacked all the elements that Marston saw as the “tender, submissive, peace-loving” feminine ideal. -- Geek History

Your Say

Masculine... feminine... women fight too - though it is faaaar more subtle and far less flamboyant than us men.

Though it is in the nature of us mens' chassis to be more flamboyant about our attacks (ie lets just call it part of the hard-wiring of the 'Rites of Spring', shall we?) it is, many times, certainly not the smartest way to destroy an enemy - with the example of the Socialists within our Civilization subtly destroying us from within while we 'stand' here and wait for our fall. :(

John, you're drifting quite a bit. This a comic, see? Like Popeye or Little Lulu.

BTW Marston was a card-carrying Commie. That's why his cartoons were never that good.

I did not know Marston was a Card-Carrying Commie.

Thanks!!!

A Commie, AND a ... Psychologist ('Frankfurt School' connections, anyone?).

Makes even more sense, now.

Wonder Woman can easily be yet another application of leftist use of Critical Theory to drive another societal wedge and create issues between Men and Women.

An early Neo-Feminism is being created here - Especially since his production of having a Woman make a foray into Masculine 'Territory' which was usually the mans role as it fit our strengths and weaknesses (us men) very well.

(Drift? Maybe, Chas... I need to watch getting too far off-topic.)

The Psychologist William Marston created his Masculinized 'Wonder Woman' in 1942, right after the time the Marxist "Frankfurt School" fled Germany at the start of WWII.

Marxist, "Frankfurt School" Co-founder Erich From 'argued there are no real sexual differences between men and women and that the roles they played in traditional western culture were simply that: Roles assigned to them by the culture.'

Psychologist Erich From in Columbia University in New York City and Psychologist, William Marston in Boston University who - just so happens - created a 'Wonder Woman' with a Masculine Role in a comic book for (at that time) boys.

Coincidence? I wonder...

(As a kid, I always loved to flip to the pages where the Woman Superheroes were because of their bodacious figures in their tight fitting ... tights. ..and hey! It wasn;t porn, either. ;) )

John, I get to drifting, I blame it on my chemo meds but it's just that I, er, lose sight of shore from time to time.
Being lost in the fog does not obfuscate the brilliance of our words. Drift on.

Ship to shore,
can't see the coastline anymore.
I shouldn't be here,
I thought I made that loud and clear.

Chemo meds?

Dayum, Chas... I hope its not serious.

(Postal Lady I know died suddenly of Cancer a couple weeks ago - didn't even have a chance to say goodbye.)

(...and thanks)

Yeah John, multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. All they can do is keep it in remission with the chemo. So far so good but some of those meds have wicked side effects. Might get to the point, the cure is worse than the disease.

For now, this is the cup God wants me to drink (Matthew 26, Gethsemane) and I'm OK with that.

I sure don't sit on the couch whining, I will go down swinging. And oddly enough, this gives me a different outlook:

When I see some of these young people running their game I want to say “Kid, I served in the military, blowing things up and killing people;
I ran with bikers, shot junk, robbed banks; my hands have taken lives and saved lives;
I worked with the Billy Graham Crusade; I’m thirty years clean and sober;
I’m half dead with the cancer; I got a million miles of highway under my ass, slept with dogs, danced with angels;
I got screwdrivers older than you … what are ya gonna show me, uh?”

"Yeah John, multiple myeloma, a blood cancer. All they can do is keep it in remission with the chemo."

THATS heavy burden, Chas.

I'm not sure what I'd do in your place being that you are kinda in one of Gods' waiting rooms.

Still, life is better than death - especially since death is permanent and life is not. But if ever your heart falters about the whole 'going down swinging' thing, its good to remember that if you can't live for yourself, live for someone else.

I'm sure you could think of ways to brighten other peoples days.

John, "going down swinging", I could have said I'm not giving in and giving up.

I'm sure you could think of ways to brighten other peoples days.

I've talked with some church people about my almost dying before the meds kicked in, back in December '13. I also talk with some of the other patients at the chemo clinic. Thanks for your insights. E me if you want to.
