Catastrophes

[Best viewed on YouTube]

Try to encompass the scale of the planetary catastrophe that was the Devonian extinction.
An area in Siberia the size of continental United States was flooded with molten basalt, up to several thousand feet thick, exuding sulfur dioxide, which turns into sulfuric acid. Species died over the course of a hundred thousand years. And you are worried about a warming of a couple of degrees centigrade in a century, after a mini-ice age?- - Barrel Strength

Your Say

The salient point regarding the global warming hysteria is the time scale. The Earth measures time in epochs and aeons. Our "scientists" have been keeping records for- what? A few decades tops.
And speaking of scientists. Maybe I have a case of "Scientist burn out". When I hear someone speak with authority about events that happened before the human race even got here I'm tending skeptical to put it mildly. Earth collided with a rogue planet some gozillions of centuries ago? C'mon. I mean- how can anyone possibly even KNOW that?

"And you are worried about a warming of a couple of degrees centigrade in a century, after a mini-ice age?"

Well, yes, that is exactly what this fifty minute propaganda piece attempts to do in the face of their own facts.

Zecharia Sitchin. I suggest some of the skeptics above read Mr. Sitchin's books. He explains a lot from very ancient writings.

You can claim to know something of the past, you cannot claim to know anything of the future.

This was a very pleasing experience to watch - except for the last few minutes where they got political and made the case for man-made global warming.

But hey, if that's what they need to do to get funding, then that's what they need to do.

There is no scenario so bizarre that they won't propose that it is linked to TOO MUCH CO2.

They first posit that there was a huge rise in SO2, which caused massive cooling. Then they decide that this was followed by a massive rise in CO2, which caused UNCONTROLLED GLOBAL WARMING that resulted in major extinctions. But when they say both gases were the result of volcanism they lose credibility. How can volcanoes cause cooling and heating in cycles? Their explanation ignores the fact that since about 850 million years ago the Earth has experienced cycles of glaciation. In fact geologic history shows that since 850 million years ago the Earth has been mostly cooler than it is now, but also warmer than it is now during periods of cyclical warming. Their aim is to link all the scary stuff to fluctuating CO2 levels. IMO, they made a better case for fearing widespread volcanism and global cooling than CO2.
