Maximum [Mexican] Security

guzmanescape.jpeg

Drug lord 'El Chapo' Guzman escapes from Mexico prison -- again: It was nearly a mile long and deep enough for him to stand, authorities said.
Its opening was only 20 inches by 20 inches, starting at the former prisoner’s shower and ending in the nondescript Santa Juanita neighborhood that was full of construction sites. Guzman was last seen around 8 p.m., when he reported for medicine. Then he headed off to the showers. After a time, when he never reappeared, the alert was sounded and he couldn’t be found. The tunnel was equipped with lighting, ventilation and rails for a motorcycle, Rubido said. Various tools and oxygen tanks were found along the way, he added.

Your Say

If corrupt guards are going to help a prisoner that much why don't they just let him walk out the gate?

Chris, good point. I'll go one further. Why not just assign a cash value to the crime and punishment, much as the Catholic Church did during the Middle Ages?

El Chapo and his organization have a long reach in Mexico. Money and threats to family ("we know where you live, and how's that two-year-old daughter doing?") work wonders to secure cooperation.

"It was nearly a mile long and deep enough for him to stand ... The tunnel was equipped with lighting, rails for a motorcycle adapted to carry out excavated dirt, and a 30-foot staircase leading out, Rubido said."

Gee...

In jail for ONE year and this guys' escape tunnel is man high, a mile long... has lighting... rails for motorcycle... 30 foot staircase...

All that's missing is a kitchenette for fixing a bite to eat for his trip, car-port, sauna and pool to help him relax before he goes through the stress of breaking out and he's got a state of the art 'escape tunnel'.

Well, it sure does make a spectacular point, uh?

You think he'll get clipped now that he's out?

Dunno Chas.

This is the Mexican Version of 'Hogans Heroes' and - as far as I can remember - nobody died when prisoners escaped Stalag 13. ;)

Still, if there is any dying that could happen, I think these Prison Guards may be in danger of dying of embarrassment. Never heard of that happening, but in a case like this, you just never know...

(You had just ONE JOB, Schultz...)

After thinking... how the heck were they so accurate in digging EXACTLY where they needed to dig, I realized that we are in the GPS Coordinates era.

Just get the actual GPS coordinates of the Prison bathroom, don the Miners helmet, and start digging.

A bit over simplified, but that's essentially it (for the accuracy part of the digging destination.)

Well it's good to see the Mexican drug lords can build infrastructure.
We obviously need to elect them to Congress.

John, I'm sure with that amount of "support" they had access to building blueprints and they sure had a lot of sophisticated equipment.

Consider all the money and skills utilized. For them chemical, biological and nuclear warfare could be done without much effort. Good thing the cartels are dollar-driven. Politics is beneath their concern except to install a few key figures in strategic positions.

I agree, Chas.

When 379 Dump Truck loads of dirt was moved, this was not a 'digging with a teaspoon' operation.

True the bottom line is no laughing matter:

El Chapo is a gangster with a billion dollars which makes him about as dangerous as they come.

If he ends up in SF, will the Sherriff's Office there turn him over to the feds?
