How the Red Cross Raised Half a Billion Dollars for Haiti and Built Six Homes

In late 2011, the Red Cross launched a multimillion-dollar project to transform the desperately poor area, which was hit hard by the earthquake that struck Haiti the year before.

The main focus of the project — called LAMIKA, an acronym in Creole for “A Better Life in My Neighborhood” — was building hundreds of permanent homes.
Today, not one home has been built in Campeche. Many residents live in shacks made of rusty sheet metal, without access to drinkable water, electricity or basic sanitation. When it rains, their homes flood and residents bail out mud and water.
The Red Cross received an outpouring of donations after the quake, nearly half a billion dollars.- - ProPublica

Your Say

I remember Bill O'reilly declaring that he would personally monitor and find out where all the Haitian donation money went. Well Bill.....we are still waiting. Update: The Clintons were involved, never mind.

When I was in an 800' parachute fall in 1975 it took the red cross 3 months to notify the next of kin. I see they are keeping their stellar standards intact.

The Bush - Clinton Fund raised $54.4 million for Haitian relief. The money has been spent (so they report) and the Haitians still need relief. Their record of failure to really help is even more impressive than the Red Cross. Oh well, on to the next humanitarian disaster and more feel good fund raising. It's enough to almost make one cynical, ain't it?

That's not so bad. Eighty-three million per home.

When you look at what the gov't is wasting all on it's own, does it really matter that citizens are robbing the coffers too?

Well, yes, theft is always wrong, everybody knows that, or should.

But you catch my drift.

All that money has gone for a good cause, namely enriching Haiti and elevating her status as a world power.
No more hookers on the streets, they now have decent hovels in which to ply their trade.
No more rampant flesh-eating diseases, accredited witch doctors and juju men are on call.
No more buildings collapsing, all are now lowered to ground level. A level playing field so to speak.
As the primary support agency for these huge humanitarian efforts The Red Cross has outfitted its street corner evangelists with new bells and tambourines.
The upper management no longer needs to take the bus, a fleet of one hundred new Chevrolets has been acquired.
A modest health insurance plan paying not only 100% of any medical expenses but also a monthly stipend for enduring the burden of getting sick is in place.
A pension fund that does not encourage workers to stay beyond their due dates has been ordered.
