The one thing that Democrats and Republicans have in common these days is nostalgia for a pre-Obama era.

There have been dynasties in American politics before, but none of them were driven by this degree of escapism.
Americans are not looking to the future. Polls show that they no longer expect the future to bring them a better life. Instead they are nostalgic for a better past. They want the nineties back. They even want the last decade back. There is no better sign of how miserable Obama’s two terms in office have been than that the last names Clinton and Bush now induce nostalgia, rather than anger. You gotta go farther back than that to get my attention. Maybe the mid 80's.

I want to live in the era when I didn't give jihadis or politicians a second thought....

Christy Mathewson, keep it simple and true.

The citizenry, those who don't want to be on the dole, want to go into the future with a leader who smacks of common sense, honesty, courage, demonstrated competence in business or government, who points confidently and explains, in simple one-to-three syllable words, how to get out of the quicksand we've negligently walked into.
Someone who inspires confidence; but not a confidence-man. Putting the country first, FDR, JFK, and RR are models of persistence that got the necessary jobs done in their time of being.

A president who inspires rather than conspires.
A president who demands the best from the citizenry s/he represents, rather than promoting parasitic victimhood.
A president who adheres to principles promoting progress, not one who fears challenge and the hard work of knocking heads together.
