Go figure! Angry White Dude may put a different spin on this study. I’m not sure sure that listening to rap makes you stupid so much as that you are already stupid and just listen to rap. Let’s face it, rap is pretty much the same thing over and over…ho’s, bling, bitches, drinking and drugs, shooting homies and pimps, etc. I think that pretty much sums up the genre. You won’t find many rap aficionados debating the ideas of 17th century philosophers. RAP MUSIC BE MAKING YOU STUPID! FO SHIZZLE! |

I love it when pop culture commentators use Beethoven or Bach as a touchstone of intellect. I'm pretty sure 90% of modern Americans wouldn't recognize either of them if you put 'em on the Muzak, beyond referring to the music as "classical."
Rap is what you get, inevitably, after 60 years of glorifying "white boys who sing like Negroes." Beginning with Elvis, the unrelenting Bump THUD Bump THUD of rock and roll, rock, jazz-rock, country-rock, disco (and so on ad nauseam) has been an assault on the higher faculties - and has in fact made millions of white people stupider than strictly necessary. Generations have been brainwashed to believe that authenticity resides in acting Cullut, despite the evidence of their own senses that the culture which produced Bach, Beethoven, Mahler, Gershwin is the culture responsible for movable type, electricity, architecture, automobiles, computers, and even the idiot boxes they use to listen to that crap.
What, in a word, the fuck do you expect?
