Despite the substantial drop in wealth and work among

the vast majority of the population, the images on television and in magazines become more hysterically aspirational. - Henry Dampier

Your Say

Yes, its been obvious for years now that the popular media and entertainment are doing their able best to show the country as amazingly happy, comfortable, and wealthy with almost no depictions of unemployment, poverty, lack, or difficulty anywhere.

They're putting as much effort into lying up the economy as they do lying down the economy when a Republican is in office. Its ridiculous, but of the two alternatives, this is probably the better.

We saw the same thing in the Thirties, Great Depression times and lots of happy-jolly movies.

Buddy, can you spare a dime?

Observe the parking lot at any Chili's or Texas Roadhouse, etc. at lunch time and you'd swear things were as normal as apple pie.

What I find interesting is in many of the commercials, there's a woman-parent-only white family, but the black families are almost always presented as having both husband and wife. Hmm.
