Cambridge would make the Klan blush.

Cambridge Mass is basically a city owned and managed by two elite universities, Harvard and MIT.

I’ve spent a lot of time in the ghetto so getting off a plane and driving to Cambridge Mass was like a guy from Detroit getting dropped into Reykjavik. That’s the thing about New England, in general, and cities like Cambridge in particular. It’s the stunning whiteness. Not wholesome Midwestern white or Scots-Irish white like West Virginia. It is a creepy Potemkin white. Central Square is now populated with fashionable young people sporting well cultivated beards and bohemian outfits. The older people all have the aging hippie vibe. The near total lack of diversity is what’s unsettling. Cambridge would make the Klan blush.

Your Say

Oh please.

Don't know about these other locales, but one thing's for sure - the author hasn't actually visited the "sanctuary city" of New Haven or its surrounds at any point in the last twenty-five years.

The notions that "it's very white and very Asian" has "little in the way of crime" or that "[t]here are no poor people" are all utterly ludicrous. The violent crime rate in New Haven has been 3-4x the national average for years, for example. It's considered one of the most dangerous cities in the U.S.

Perhaps if one somehow managed to parachute into and then never actually leave the Yale campus, proper, this fanciful illusion might be maintained. But wander two or three blocks in any direction around Yale, or certainly any other part of the city, and you'll soon see how risible this mischaracterization really is.

Me and my buddy Larry had a "Good Will Hunting" moment when we stepped into a Cambridge bar in '79.

We tried to talk up the girls like young men do, you know?

They looked at us like we had exposed ourselves or something. Not that we had to worry about their "male" colleagues coming to their rescue. Typical conversations revolved around coursework. My step-sister there was a professor who taught these brats.

Really? You actually want them to associate with minorities? Isn't it enough that they talk about it in a manner of affection.

The last 'B;eck' seen there caused a "Beer Summit".

I live in Sebastopol, CA - former Congressional District of Lynn Woolsey, awarded the title of The Leftmost County in the United States by the Congressional Record. All the liberal pieties are taken for granted and on constant display.

Sebastopol has the least diverse population for cities and towns of its size in the State of California, according to the state census - we all of us white folks here. It's always easiest to be self-righteous when you're never challenged by uncomfortable realities.

DearAGoyAndHisBlog,

You're clear that he's talking about Cambridge,MA-- adjacent to Boston -- and not New Haven, CT, right?

Gerard - you read his entire screed, right?

I'll quote, I guess: "That’s the thing that jumps out to me when I visit college towns like Cambridge, Boulder, New Haven etc. They are cultivated little utopias based on the ideological inclinations of the modern college faculty. Unlike normal-ville, they are very white and very Asian. There’s little in the way of crime or social pathology. There are no poor people. ..."
