The kids, with their smartphones and sharing economy, are just a bunch of addled-minded commies, high on stupid.

Uber strikes me as one of the pet rock businesses of post-reality America.

By that, I mean it is is a fun fad that people get rich from, but otherwise is not a real business with staying power. The reason is they are basically making money by deception. Part of that deception is cost shifting. They shift the operating costs of a taxi company onto the drivers, cell phone carriers and general society.

Your Say

I can't imagine a circumstance where I would hire someone to drive me somewhere.

Nothing is simple anymore. Nothing ever works. Nothing ever fits. Everything's gotta be special. Standard is never good enough.

Ain't that the truth Chas?
When we had a landline I called about a mysterious charge on the bill. An hour later I found out the $1.11 charge was to pay for phone service for poor folks. Hmmm.... If I don't pay for my phone no one is gonna give me one so why am I paying for someone else's phone? And why did I have to trade an hour of my time to find that out?

Solution?

Shitcan the landline.

Now, instead of just ME losing, EVERYBODY loses.

"..The costs of running a livery service?
Say, how much does an "official medallion" go for
"at auction", in say....New York City?
How many "officially endorsed" taxis in, say, Boston, or Manchester NH, fail
"safety inspections" on a regular basis?

I'm convinced. I'll switch back to the local cabs, with their fleet of dirty old vehicles reeking of vanilla, and dodge the discontent of the driver because I want to pay with a card (the electronic readers don't work half the time, so they have to write out your card number on carbon and rack it through an imprint machine, like it's 1962 and you're paying with Diners Club). I'll pay special attention when we reach the destination to guide the driver, who regards the city in which he works as terra incognito, as opposed to a driver who plugged the destination into his GPS before he even picked me up.

Sold.

OK, I went and read the blog post.
This Z character is a statist, and lazy minded too, and admits it.

IOW, he's worse than worthless.
