Like a bearded nut in robes on the sidewalk

proclaiming the end of the world is near,

the media is just doing what makes it feel good, not reporting hard facts. We need to start seeing the media as a bearded nut on the sidewalk, shouting out false fears. It’s not sensible to listen to it … Personally, I think we need to start turning away from media, and the data shows that we are, at least from television news. I find that whenever I lack exposure to media I am much happier, and my life feels fresher.

Your Say

I've been not watching the "news" for longer than I can remember. And any TV for the last three. And I feel so much better.

Keep in mind, *anything* on TV is for entertainment purposes only, in order to get eyeballs on the screens.

Same here. My dismissal of the TV has been a long time coming became more and more irrelevant until 3 years ago when we got rid of the dish. I don't miss it at all.

Now, if they let the subscribers choose channels ale cart I might be persuaded to let it back in the house.

Cable and Dish may be forced into an à la carte menu by dint of loss of subscribers. Of course the charges will go up because of the number of crap channels that will just disappear.

Here the cable company opened up the previously extra charge channels just to keep patrons.

It will e interesting to see how they market maybe 23 channels.

As the news media are an organ of the State so will be television. Already we see political stances and moral standards woven into the shows available on any cable network.
When the State takes over the programming we will learn what to think and how to behave.
Inter-active TV is just around the corner. Cameras and mikes in all rooms so we don't stray from the doctrine. For our own good y'see.
