The Modern Campus Cannot Comprehend Evil

Liberalism lacks a profound sense of evil
— but so does conservatism these days, when evil is facilely projected onto a foreign host of rising political forces united only in their rejection of Western values. Nothing is more simplistic than the now rote use by politicians and pundits of the cartoonish label “bad guys” for jihadists, as if American foreign policy is a slapdash script for a cowboy movie.
Camille Paglia: | TIME

Posted by gerardvanderleun at September 30, 2014 7:09 AM. This is an entry on the sideblog of American Digest: Check it out.

Your Say

Camille Paglia continues to ring the bell, doesn't she? Her brilliance regularly overwhelms her leftist-feminist-lesbian life choice.

The money quotes in that Time piece are

Too many young middleclass women, raised far from the urban streets, seem to expect adult life to be an extension of their comfortable, overprotected homes.

and

Misled by the naive optimism and “You go, girl!” boosterism of their upbringing, young women do not see the animal eyes glowing at them in the dark. They assume that bared flesh and sexy clothes are just a fashion statement containing no messages that might be misread and twisted by a psychotic. They do not understand the fragility of civilization and the constant nearness of savage nature.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

"Liberalism lacks a profound sense of evil."

I disagree with that statement.
Liberalism considers those it calls 'conservative' as evil.
It considers Christianity evil.
It considers republicans evil.
Talk to any liberal for five minutes, if you can stand it. I had one guy at work tell me that while he considered democrats stupid, he thought republicans and all conservatives as stupid and evil. Indeed, this present administration considers the domestic political opposition as the only real evil, everything else being just politics.
Liberals indeed do believe in evil.
Paglia may like to think they don't, perhaps because then she will not have to face the uncomfortable truth about the religious fanaticism of today's liberals, who harbor a world view whose foundation is naivete, narcissism, and a misguided rousseauian view of human nature. If only they were in charge, they could make it so much better and fix all these problems the stupid people can't deal with effectively.
Oops! Wait, they are in charge!

Paglia owns a defect which is common to her sex, that is, even the gift of insight does not fuel the lamp of her own illumination.

To comment on this post I need to go read the article and I just can't bring myself to do that.
It may have to do with Tim P's 5th sentence above.
