Vigilante justice. In the California "Mother Lode" gold area during the rush, this was called justice by "Judge Lynch". Being a descendent of these people my family has numerous documented files of these occasions. There were plenty of whites who were hung. But the Mexicans were very well represented as they had no appreciation of any law.

These proceedings were very swift. No waiting in jail for a "re-trial" allowed. Fifteen minutes to half an hour after "sentencing" the rope was stretched.

Sad? Lamentable, maybe. What other form of retaliation is available? Waiting for the Justice Department to hold hearings? Voting for a Ford/Dole/McCain/Christie shitloaf to send a message? Proving to your enemies that you are far superior by allowing them to bully you, thus showing your higher development by refusing to engage? Becoming an honored victim, kneeling before your executioner with your head held proudly high to show the world your mettle? Gives them a better whack at your neck.

Violence is no response to violence, is it?
