When you get a concealed carry in most states, you learn when you can use lethal force.

The first rule you learn is the seven yard rule.
When the bad guy is within 20 feet, it is assumed retreat is impossible. About 20 states do not require any retreat whatsoever. Others have laws on the books requiring a citizen to take reasonable steps to get away from the bad guy. Once the bad guy gets close, however, you can do what you need to do to avoid harm. That rule applies to cops too. This guy is not required to take a beating just because the giant did not have a weapon.

Your Say

Michael Brown won't punch another cop.

20'. 7yards. 1½ seconds to contact with the perp. Can you clear your holster that fast? You better hope you can. And do it while the adrenalin has your hands shaking and your heart racing. And you can't seem to breathe.

Kinda late to be thinking about SA and condition orange, isn't it. And you can hit the X-ring.

@ VW — seven yards is awful close. I have seen with my own eyes an assailant cover that distance and draw blood from one of my team with a knife.
Was the last thing he ever did except fall down.

First, that blob of shit isn't going to cover 7' per second.

An experienced shooter can go from concealed to target in less than a second, even while sitting seat belted in a vehicle.

The average cop has very little shooting experience. Read John Lott's book, More Guns, Less Crime, where he expands on this.

That's why when cops do shoot they empty the gun - a sure sign of a novice, and why they always say they feared for their lives.

Confidence comes from knowledge and experience.

Listen, can't we just take all black males living on welfare who are over 6' at age 16 and incarcerate them until they turn 35?

They'll come out of prison with self-taught college degree and a positive outlook on life. Better for them, better for us.

Ghost, everyone can stand at the line and tear up the X-ring. Load up, put the piece down, now run a quarter mile away and then run right back. Immediately pick up the weapon and tear up that X-ring. Maybe I should be behind you setting off a firecracker or two or poking you with a stick. Just a small irritant like maybe a bee sting at the wrong time.

Combat shooters can draw, fire and holster from a speed rig in slightly under 1.1 seconds and hit their targets. They aren't clearing clothes and getting surprised by some clown who decides to act out when you come out of a restaurant with the Mrs.

And I want to see John Lott do it for real, not with a word processor.

I've been there, the pucker factor never goes away. I you don't get scared and the adrenalin floods the system, you're already dead.
