In a microcosm, this is how an ice age starts.

winnipeg-snow1.jpg

Somewhere, high on a mountain, or on a plateau, last winter’s snow fails to melt completely in spring.
The next winter’s snow lands on top. The vegetation dies. The snow turns to ice under pressure. The ice piles up and spreads. In central Labrador, during the last Little Ice Age (1350-1850), there is still an area which can be seen from satellite imagining where the snow had started to accumulate into ice.(source: a geologist friend whose specialization was satellite imaging.) It is not pretty; the effect is as ugly as the dirty snow pile in the Winnipeg snow dump. Remember, the average temperature of the world’s oceans – all of them, even in the tropics – is 3C. The world’s surface temperature (to the extent one can talk meaningfully of an average world temperature) has risen 0.6C since 1900, which has had no effect on ocean temperatures.

...there is still an area which can be seen from satellite imagining.... I like that. Kind of like climate change imagining.

Hot. Cold. Wet. Dry. Boring.
