And just how do we know Stephen Hawking is still compos mentis?

Sense of Events: Stephen Hawking, science fiction writer Hawking claims that God is not needed to explain the beginning of the universe.

"Because there is a law such as gravity, the universe can and will create itself from nothing," writes Hawking. "Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the universe exists, why we exist. It is not necessary to invoke God to light the blue touch paper and set the universe going." It's striking how much this kind of science is coming to resemble science fiction with its own religious overtones.

Your Say

Yeah Hawking is supposed to be very, very, very smart, indeed so very smart you can't even understand how many verys are involved here.

Except I read one of his books and while it was very technical and full of physics jargon, it wasn't particularly intelligent, just capable. And nobody sane or intelligent in science claims something comes from nothing, gradually or not. That's just an idiotic copout.

When your theories require more faith and less grasp on science, reason, and common sense than a creator God... you know you're off the deep end.

Hawking will probably enjoy sorting all of this out through eternity….right after he learns the Truth.

Of the many books my wife has bought me over the past 30 years Hawkings "A Brief History of Time: From the Big Bang to the Black Holes" is the only one I never completed reading. I mean, what's the point? There's 2 things I'm not really interested in, the universe, and god. Maybe they're both one and the same.....

Ah, but the universe and GOD are interested in you!
