Oh yeah, its the same as asking an actor about politics or a doctor about painting. Its out of their are of expertise so they're likely going to be idiots about it. Some might know, but for the most part, people have a few areas they are good and most others they are not.
Stephen Hawking is a good physicist - not as brilliant as people pretend but its an emperor's new clothes thing; if he was able to walk and talk normally they'd think him just another scientist. But his ability in physics doesn't translate to all areas.
