There's no mystery why torch and pitchfork sales are slow.

Employment is seriously diminished but hardly gone. The unemployed are getting checks for a full ninety-nine weeks—nearly two years, food stamp debit cards are being issued to all comers, or near enough, greybeards are getting their Social Security stipends and Medicare, retired civil service employees are getting their benefits, routinely jumped up with a last-working-minute promotion, often with a fat add-on for an alleged disability. ol remus and the woodpile report
