Career dependents receive what's called "assistance," perhaps the most egregious weasel word to be found outside the real estate industry.

It means free medical, dental, eyeglasses, tuition, rent subsidy, WIC, food stamp debit cards —
EBT, daycare, Earned Income Credit and more. In zip codes where hearts bleed freest, cell phones and vehicles are also provided in service to illusions of future employability and imminent dispersal into a grateful wider population. Improbable. Not with reading skills limited to major brand names and a handful of four-letter words. Not with conversation consisting of indecipherable phrases grunted in a stylized cadence as if the sole purpose of speaking were to entertain.

Oh, I so pray for that anti-socialist meteor to smash right into DC land on the Fed building and the back flash get the IRS and Congress. The weeping and gnashing of teeth in the 'assistance' pits would rise to a volume sufficient to make clouds swirl, waters rise and Nagin's buses sit empty.

The real show "The Walking Dead" would be in the 'hood near you.
