Comments Are Back. Sort Of.

It's not ideal but it is a patch until something smoother comes along. When I remove the registration module "The Top 40" starts collecting about 2,000 spam comments a day. Many are caught by the filters but a large number get through which forces me to weed them by hand. Trust me, you don't want to do that day in and day out.

Cheer up Gerard. Look at it this way: there's a mile of wire in a screen door.

the spam load is everywhere. I took to marking anything with anURL in it as spam and batch deleted them. Comments are few and far between now anyway. Most are on twitter and the few that come through can't seem to grasp the idea of a thread.

Wordpress and Akismet would probably resolve a lot of this. Back when I was blogging politics regularly, I stuck with MT for WAAAAY too long. For months after switching I kicked myself daily for not having done it sooner. On a music site I maintain, Akismet catches about 1000+ spams every couple days. FWIW...

AGoyAndHisBlog, I use Akismet. you're right it catches almost everyone of them. But I still have to check for the few that get snagged and shouldn't be caught. It is easier for me since I don't have ads, I don't take any commercial URL's period. Not even the ones for London escort services.

I was feeling all bad because I have a humble little crayons & wrapping paper blog that most viewers stumble upon while searching for soup recipes.
The only spam I have is this:
