Two Generations Lost to Communism

dispatchcongdon.jpg

On a visit towards the end of last year,
I expected to be unimpressed by Cuban living standards and economic infrastructure. Even so, the extent of the poverty, backwardness and decay came as a shock, and this article will argue that Cuba must have lower incomes per head now than 55 years ago, at the time of the Castro takeover.

Your Say

But a failure of epic proportions is OK you see. Castro is a hero to the Amerikan Left. Murder, torture, rape, starvation not a problem. Castro, oh he has such charm and magnetism. So did Hitler and Stalin.

Why does the typical Amerikan Leftist just adore these pieces of human waste? Anyone please.

And you would be right, to a great degree. To a large extent, Che Guevara was responsible for starting Cuba down that road, but it would've gotten to that point anyway.

Of COURSE the standard of living, "per head" is lower now.
With limited resources, there were "suddenly" a lot fewer "per capitas" to not spread the wealth around to.
Funny how great disparity between connected, appointed, and The people, REALLY needs to be diluted into "oh, on average", per capita, and "not including a whole BUNCH of uh..um...outliers....

They lost more than just two generations. They lost what made Cubans Cuban. Nobody remembers. There is no longer a culture left to resuscitate.

Cuba hit its peak when Batista was in charge and the Mob had casinos there. Matter of fact, a lot of places would be better off with the Mob in charge. A horse head in a couple beds would be a good start.

Pffft! A human head in a couple of beds would be a better start.

The Cubans are now as the Haitians: cultural children unfit, unprepared for the responsibilities of true Liberty. The better educated and alimented ones have wickedly morose jokes about Castro, so there's that.

Oh you preening sanctimonious Americans! Los dolores del pueblo del Cuba is all your fault. You in your great power and conceit and Anglo prejudice have once again trampled the Latin Americans into the dirt.

It didn't have to be this way. Castro came to the United States seeking the support of the U.S. people. But you all sent him away, because he was a man of the people, a socialismo, a dirty bearded Latin. Having overthrown the corrupt Batista, he was looking for support to bring true social justice to the long-suffering Cubanos. But no, because he was not a fat cat crony capitalist, and would not abase himself to the American god of profit, and become a compliant banana republic to American commercial interests, and because he was infused with midcentury revolutionary zeal, you rejected him, slapped embargoes and sanctions on the suffering Cubans, and forced him to turn to the Russians for support. And then to top it off, your new and dynamic Democratic president invaded Cuba to steal it back once again to a prostrate economic colony of the mighty USA.

Your sanctions and embargoes hit the Cuban people hard. The Russians were a poor substitute, and only wanted Cuba for its strategic position, its sugar, and its war-hardened soldiers to fight its proxy wars around the globe. What choice was ever Cuba given, the devil or the deeps? At least with the Russians, the Cubans were free to rule themselves, they would not have had even that in the crushing embrace of the Yanqui.

You Americans! Today you smugly say "See, look at the unparalleled suffering and poverty that socialism brings." You did this to the Cubans, it was not socialism. You needed the specter of degraded Cuba to discipline the Philippines and Egypt and Israel and every other of your proxies. "See, do as we say and your people won't suffer like Cuba, we'll help you." And when you spent the Soviets into exhaustion, again you could say "look at Cuba, it could be rich if only it gave up its freedom and pledged allegiance to the mighty Yanqui empire."

Los Cubanos will bow to no one. They may be poor, but they are free. There are no slaves in Cuba. Not like the USA, where 47% of the people do nothing but wait for those government checks to arrive, and vote as many times as necessary to keep the fat oligarch bandits in power. House slaves! Where 35% are the field slaves who do all the work, and have no say in how the wealth is to be distributed, and are punished for any attempt to resist. And a ruling elite, who cannot be pried from power, and even now are spending your country into ruin.

From your hubris and for your sins, nemesis is upon you. There are no riots in Cuba. It is a peaceful country. For you Americans, the time for reckoning is at hand.
