It is an American trait to go into each and every next war unprepared. We can't help ourselves. The best exception to this rule was how Eisenhower and Reagan made sure we were strongly prepared against the Soviet Union.

It seems we excel at the cold war, but suck at going into hot wars of any level higher than "low intensity."

There is a bucket of phrases that only work in the military for these situations. The first one that comes to mind is "grab your a$$." It means you are unprepared and now you're going to deal with that. Under the new tolerance rules at the USAFA, however, this meaning has also been changed...

I dunno, just a little more lift and they can pull the wheels up.

The left banks on the hope nothing serious ever happens when they are in power, or if it does they are not affected personally by it. Shortsightedness is a trademark of the loser party. It is truly naive for them to believe the enemy can be fought in a international courtroom. Unless the intent is for the US to lose anyhow.

I seem to recall the Army was training with wooden guns and driving model A's with wooden tank-like facades just before WWII, and we managed to bumble our way through it and survive.

Fiscal conservatives should love the cut backs in spending.

Fiscal conservatives know that the common defense is one of the few actual reasons, explicitly stated in the Constitution, to form a government, and extract taxes from the citizenry upon pain of violence, the monopoly on the use of violence to impose ends being one simple definition of a government. Which puts many other things not there mentioned at all ahead of the armed forces on any list of ending or reductions in spending. It's as if you're not even trying, Todd.

For funding, the DoD could try to find the TRILLION dollars it misplaced. Or, perhaps it could do something about the TRILLION plus wasted on the F35.

The best thing for the armed forces would be to cut them to the bone, starting with the hundreds of flag and general officers.

And we had a shit load of people here in Amurrica that wanted the war over, they were tired of the rationing and the civilian hardships. Imagine that. Look up your history, much of this will be found in the oral stories of the vets coming back for war bond drives.

Obama and a few thousand of his best friends are devoted to the decline of America, but by doing their worst they may set in motion forces and understandings which were not their intention, and were showing no sign of awakening.

A government and a people which has not demonstrated the ability nor the inclination to abandon the penny is not going to change rationally. All that we are experiencing is a quickening of the diseases which were in the host already. Is that a bad thing?

Mooch, when not vacationing is constantly spouting racist drivel and barky uses every opportunity to push hatred of EuroAmericans at every juncture. (See Cambridge, Trayvon, etc.) I must marvel at this group, they are destroying America at a pace that is as rapid as possible without the "folks" rioting. I hope push comes to shove and we can turn our ship of state around before it is too late. But if we must go down, let's do it with a bang not a whimper.

The Air Force only has 3 fighter Wings at war-ready status. They have 7 other Wings the USAF will get war-ready AFTER conflict begins. Their plan is that in 90 days after the war starts they will furiously train the remaining 7 Wings of pilots and then use them in the war.

It's a plan so crazy it just can't work.
