Time in a Bottle

Thriving Garden in Sealed Bottle Hasn't Been Watered in Over 40 Years: When David Latimer planted a seed in a glass bottle on Easter Sunday of 1960 out of pure curiosity,
he had no idea that it would flourish into a mass of greenery that would thrive untouched for several decades. Now, over half a century later, the sealed bottle garden is still growing as vigorously as ever, filling the bottle entirely with lush plant life, despite the fact that the last time Latimer watered it was in 1972.

Your Say

the last time Latimer watered it was in 1972.

I'm really forgetful about stuff like that, too.

Wonderful.

Wow. Now that's the kind of garden I could actually grow.

Water was never the issue.

The a decent mix of saprophytic organism necessary to compost the plant growth (any saprophytes) back into a suitable substrate for more plant (and saprophyte)growth is what he really got lucky.

Absent those the plant would have grown, died, and stayed dead.

Perpetual motion (organic) machine.

Reminds me of the Whole Earth Catalog.

@chas, I actually have my original Whole Earth Catalog here on my bookshelf that I purchased back in 1971 I think, I'd have to look.
I haven't looked at it in years, maybe 20 or more.
The neatest part is the tiny picture in the bottom corner of the page edge, each picture only slightly different than the one before, so that when you fan the pages a small movie happens.

Dear Lord, that's the last time I try to post from a phone. That should have read.

ghost: yeah, I used to have one, too many moves, lost in the shuffle. I forgot about the page fan thing, thanks.

ThomasD: relax. I use crayons and wrapping paper when I post things here. It's all good.
