There you go pope, why don't you dress in civies and go to Iran and spew your drivel. Gay Christians need a martyr.

Well, there's a whole lot in life I don't care much about, but I am pretty well centered in my own spirituality and the older I get I allow that there's probably about 23 different ways to get into Heaven. "Everybody's got their own way to butter their bread" as my father would say, "don't trust the priests, son, all they got a key to is the shithouse".
And besides, as I get older, I pay more attention to the evidence and less to the arguments.

Ahem, no punch in the face for him. I never strike a man of the cloth. He does merit some glowering.

The Advocate picked Pope Francis for their person of the year over Edie Windsor. No, really, they could have picked the woman who got DOMA overturned, and they picked him instead.

Suckers.

What too many homosexuals don't seem to understand is that the Church does not condemn homosexuality per se -- I'm inclined to think (and I think the Church is willing to concede) that homosexuals are born, not made, and if that's the way God put you together, who am I (or the Church leadership) to judge? Besides, only God is the judge of souls.

What the Church does condemn is homosexual conduct. It was condemned 2,000 years ago, is condemned today, and will be condemned as long as there's a Catholic Church, not because the leaders of the Church hate homosexuals, but because the Church leadership sees itself as stewards of rules laid down by God Himself, and they won't change those rules because they can't -- they don't have the authority to do so. The Church's leaders have their problems, too, but they do have enough sense to know that they are not God.

And so the "homosexual lobby" (for lack of a better term, pejorative as it may be) is perennially disappointed that the Catholic Church won't see things their way. Never mind that they (the homosexual lobby) are just as sinful as the rest of us. Worse, actually, as they put their sinfulness at the center of their identity.

Their lack of self-awareness would be hilarious if it weren't so sad.

...they put their sinfulness at the center of their identity.

Brilliant, and perfect.
