Myself, in a sudden situation like that, with surprise, adrenalin, and a short available response time, I'd go for the center of mass. Largest target. Hopefully they were shooting hollow points.
No doubt democrats will be up nights to figure out how to combat this trend. Free people standing up for themselves without government. Intolerable!!

"There is a very interesting chapter in the book More Homicidal Humor, by Sgt. Brian Foster of the Houston Police Homicide Unit, about a man he calls Tommy T who once owned this gun. Tommy was an organized crime figure in Houston and Corpus Christi who is said to have murdered quite a few people with it."

I was taught to shoot until threat is no longer one--dead, fled, or compliant. Center of mass is the general school solution, but the triple-tap--two CoM, one to the head--is a good alternative that ensures there will only be one story: yours.

Center of mass is nice, but remember, perps do wear vests too. But they can't wear one on their forehead.

A CoM hit with a large caliber round on a vest will cause some injury and interrupt the action. Kevlar vests will not stop rifle rounds unless there are ceramic plate inserts.
A lot of schools of self defense now teach that groin shots are effective. Anywhere in the pelvic area will break bones or cut nerves or open large blood vessels.
With either of these, a shot in the head is recommended to finalize the deal. BTDT.
