Pit bulls can maul children to death -- but, hey, why should that stop you from owning one?

Make no mistake, you don’t insinuate that a 4-year-old deserves to be gnawed on by a pit bull because you “love animals.” You say these things because you have a depraved indifference towards human life. -- The Matt Walsh Blog

Your Say

I personally would not have a dog capable of doing serious harm to me. Why would a sane person keep and animal that can seriously harm them? The only injury our 40lb gurl spaniels will cause you are serious facial lesions from being kissed to death.

9 years ago while walking my leashed spaniels at night in suburbia, out of the darkness a Rottweiler attacked us. The gurlz jumped right in there and I yanked their leashes back and flailed the attacker with my feet. It took off, running for it's life. A month later a german shepard attacked us and the scenario repeated except this time the attacker was killed. Feet. Couple months later another Rottwellier, might have been the same one, and again it escaped with it's life. I called animal control and got a recording that they closed at 5pm. I called the police and was told to shoot the attacker as I had a concealed weapon permit. Unfortunately it is against the law to discharge a firearm in the city limits for any reason, and my weapon would have been confiscated pending an investigation. We moved to the woods where all the animals are wild and know better than to mess with other animals that may kill them. The word RESPECT is capitalized in the forest.

Years ago I had an interesting experience in East St. Louis. I worked part-time as a process server while I was in law school. I had papers to serve at an older house, one with a Craftsman-style front porch, all rundown, with a postage stamp sized yard. There was a gate across the porch, I thought it was a child-gate and just stepped over it. Turned out the guy put his two full sized alligators out on the porch when the weather was good. That was exciting. They both hissed at me and I was over that gate like a rocket. Never did serve that fellow.

I think if you truly cared about your fellow man as well as your dog, you would do the work of training any dog and not select a dog that came from aggressive parents. I have had several giant dogs that were as well, or better behaved than most people. Due diligence is what is needed. Stop breeding dogs that are aggressive, this is part of the selective breeding we should be doing. You should be as disgusted by dogs that you can physically dominate that are aggressive (read: most celebrities accessory dogs) as one that would physically dominate you.

Good idea Aaron. Let me add that the psychopaths who breed, raise, keep and own these kinds of dogs should be selectively bred out of the human race.
