Earth going to pot

Marijuana grown in California produces more carbon than 3 million cars | Watts Up With That?
I’m sure eco-activists will jump right on this trash-making climate-killing water-sucking pot problem we have here in California and include it right up there with the urgency of the proposed statewide plastic bag ban and banning fracking by chartering buses.

Your Say

I'm sure the marijuana enthusiasts will be along any minute to explain how Mother Jones is staffed by a bunch of alcoholic Republicans.

3 million cars? So how did they do that arithmetic? Add up three million cars worth of carbon and compare it all the pot farms in California? What a bunch of baloney.

All the dream weed enthusiasts and mother-earthers and the liberal wing of the Libertarian Party will be posing and posturing and they can pound sand up their asses for all I care. It is the same dynamics now as it was back in the 60s. Follow the money. The patchouli oil and tie-dyed and kumbaya-ing is window dressing for a multi-million dollar business with crooks and clean businessmen sitting at the board meetings.

Excerpt from the article:
◾80 percent of all marijuana grown in the USA comes from California.
◾In 2013, California authorities seized 329 outdoor pot grow sites with: 1.2 million plants, 119,000lbs of trash, 17,000lbs of fertilizer, 40gal. of pesticides, 244 propane tanks, 61 car batteries, 89 illegal dams, and 81 miles of irrigation pipe.
◾During California’s growing season, outdoor grows consumed roughly 60 million gallons of water a day

This ain't Cheech and Chong folks. "Uh, er, Dave's not home" yeah, right, he's at the bank counting his money.

jwm: This is what I come away with: The article points out the cognitive dissonance involved with the pot industry. It is an industry, a business. Never mind following the money, just look at the dollars and material goods and the scope of the operations. It ain't no hobby, ain't no religion, ain't no counter-culture rebel stance.

trivia comment: Anyone who remembers Rochdale College in Toronto 'round about 1968-1972 chime in or reach me at my blog. A screening question will weed out the Wikki users.

Well, that IS three million "California" cars.
The corn/gasoline ones that idle, twice daily, on the California freeways.
BTW, how's that "leftover parts" hemp textile/energy byproducts industry coming along?

Right up there with the windmills captDMO.

Curious, what's the "DMO" stand for?
