Your Say

What was the average wage for a working husband-say, an airplane mechanic- with 2.3 kids around the time those were being offered?
What was a 20yr home owners loan?

In 1971 my dad was working as a block mason for Pulte Construction for $8.00 an hour. Late that year we moved into a brand new 3 bedroom 2 bath 2 car garage house with a screened in back porch on a 1/3 acre subdivision lot and that house cost $26,990.00 in southwest Florida about 3 miles from the gulf at Sanibel Island and my mother didn't work. I remember him bitching about the $78/mth payments. The following year he started his own masonry business and paid that house off 3 years later. 5 years later he dropped dead.

My parents bought the only house they ever lived in together, for $8,900.00 in 1955. You cannot even buy a new car for that now.

And 129 Park Blvd. is still looking trim and well-kept. The old tree seems only a little bigger, though.
