Which is more likely in Obama's world after work?

The new golden age of poetry and music foreseen by Nancy Pelosi?
Or more heroin, more obesity, more diabetes, more crime, more children raised in transient households that make even elementary character formation all but impossible... This recent line of rhetoric provides an interesting insight to the reasons healthcare "reform" took on such urgency for this administration -- When your worldview assumes that we're entering a "post-growth" era, the idea of encouraging people to retire becomes very attractive -- it's like the way women in the immediate wake of WWII were told "not to work unless they had to" to free up jobs for men with families to support. Severing the linkage between jobs and insurance, then, is seen as vital to making more room in a stagnant or shrinking workforce.

Of course, that linkage was created in the first place by poorly-considered, politically-driven tax policies. Reconfiguring and scaling back those policies could have accomplished the same thing, and had even more positive effects by reducing employer overhead, but that's not the way the "Progressive" statist mind operates.
