The protected class

The protected class has a different view. The protected class is a dependent class
— not economically dependent of course, but dependent on the state in perhaps a more fundamental way (for their very lives) – and like members of other dependent classes, they are terrified of flaws in the state’s protective apparatus. Why People Carry Guns: A Response to David Frum

Your Say

Mr. French has it right. My personal translation is that there are sheep and there are shepherd dogs. Would rather be a shepherd myself. Part of that responsibility for your own safety and the safety of you family and neighbors thing.

Uh no, and Frum just showed his Tory Canadian subjectitude.

We carry firearms if we please, because We the People of the United States are the Sovereign, the Sovereign Power inheres in Us. We owe no man an explanation or justification for our choices, nor need we defer to another man's judgement on how and when to exercise our Sovereign Rights.

Frum doesn't like this whole idea of treating each person as an equal in rights and powers. Makes him uncomfortable. Thinks he's one of the Ruling Party, he does. The Tories fled to Canada once to stay in the King's good graces, seems like they ought to again.

And besides, It's just a tool. Good for nothing except killing zombies and protecting yourself and your family from the barbarians at the gate. Has no more mystical power than a chainsaw or screwdriver. Just a hunk of metal that sits around and does nothing but take up space, until there's a job to be done.

If you saw a guy walking down the street with a chainsaw hanging from his belt, and your only reaction was "Huh, his business I guess", and paid it no other mind, then you are a true-blue citizen of the United States.
