The Atheist's Prayer

Your Say

One thing I find comforting about knowing and loving God is that I know what my purpose and place in life is. I know why I'm here and what I'm supposed to do, in every situation and time.

Glorify God.

I'm not very good at it, but at least I know what I'm supposed to do.

The Unitarian's Prayer

O God
(if there is a God)
Save my soul
(if I have a soul)

Atheists, all worked up over nothing.

I ask, in respect and curiosity, not in snark at all, if you are an atheist how has that made your life better? How has it made the world better? If you ask, I am prepared to give reason for the hope that is within me.

I don't wonder anymore why grown adults still believe in fairy tales. I just don't care. I wish more people didn't care about us that don't believe in fairy tales.

As far as "What should I do?,? I think I've known what to do from the very beginning and spend every day doing it. No guidance necessary, I'll find my way.

ghost,

I will only say that I don't feel the need to denigrate your belief (or lack thereof) by characterizing it as a fairy tale. So there's that.

It's obvious that you distinguish between right and wrong, and hold yourself to an ethical (I would say "moral") standard. Some of us believe that people like you prove the existence of a higher and benevolent power. You can believe (or not) what you wish, and I personally don't give a shit.

K?

Philosophers have been trying to understand the meaning of life for millennia, individuals torture themselves wondering why they are here on this earth, and what the point of it all is.

They never have needed to.

Careful with the over used word "obvious", it is usually not needed, obviously.

Still invested in telling me how to talk, eh? Maybe you don't know what to do after all.

Posted by: Rob De Witt at February 6, 2014 7:08 AM

Well.... I intended to pay you the compliment of treating you like an equal, but you're apparently still invested in telling me how to talk.

Maybe you don't know what to do after all.

Bend over, firmly tuck your head high up between your thighs and kiss your ass goodbye.

Still?

Overt emotionalism causes people to double click sometimes.

Heard the one about the funeral for the atheist? There he was, all laid out in his casket: all dressed up and nowhere to go.

Q: What do you get if you cross a Unitarian with a Jehovah's Witness? A: Someone who goes around knocking on doors for no apparent reason.

The Governor's off the engine now; do what you want until it all goes smash.

Well you can't go anywhere Mr. Freeman, because you've already reached your final destination.
