Charlie Chaplin Invents Himself

chaplin.jpg

1913 / Los Angeles: I had no idea what makeup to put on. I did not like my getup as the press reporter.
However, on the way to the wardrobe, I thought I would dress in baggy pants, big shoes, a cane, and a derby hat. I wanted everything a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight; the hat small, and the shoes large. I was undecided whether to look old or young, but remembering Sennett had expected me to be a much older man, I added a small mustache, which, I reasoned, would add age without hiding my expression. - - Lapham’s Quarterly

That is Charlie Chaplin and his son plays the boy.

Indeed. I expect that grinding of that axe to be along any moment.

Or now, maybe not.

Never thought he was funny or the least bit interesting. Kind of like Will Farrell.

So. . . . .he wasn't a commie?
Was that clip a representation of his personal views or was it acting? Sounded to me like a cross between Karl - Uncle Joe - Alex Jones - Barock's.

Didn't he renounce his U.S. Citizenship when he jumped to Europe to live out his days?

Sometimes it’s better just to eat the soup, and not stir it.
