Greatly overrated women in Hollywood today, in terms of looks:

Word Around the Net: NOT BEAUTIFUL Cate Blanchett - Brad Pitt in drag.
Carmeon Diaz - She's a man, baby! Angelina Jolie - She is just odd looking. Sarah Jessica Parker - Seriously, she's not pretty. Julia Roberts - Again, not pretty. Maggie Gyllenhaal - She looks like she was pretty but then spent 10 years in the pen smoking crack.

Your Say

I like your honesty. Good call.

Glad someone finally mentioned Maggie Gyllenhaal in this category. I have never understood how the Hell she got picked for The Dark Knight.

It's pretty bad when 99.99 % of the storyline and FX in a movie about Batman requires less suspension of disbelief than the fact that Bruce Wayne's female love interest is "beautiful".

It doesn't help that glamor is no longer fashionable. The old studio system would have been able to do quite a lot with some of these women:

Re: Maggie Gyllenhaal. Maybe "Secretary" just punched every Hollywood producer's big control button a bit too hard?

Gerard,

Bingo. Maggie Gyllenhaal became forever a beautiful woman with that scene - although I most certainly wouldn't recognize her unless she was bent over a desk.

Actually, except for Parker, they were all pretty cute 20-25 years ago. Since then, they've all gone GAUNT. None of the top actresses did that in the 30s-40-50s-60s.

Most women don't age all that well, especially when they are starving themselves to stick-like proportions. They get gnarly, man, and I mean that literally.

I think actresses today are using epic amounts of human growth hormone to burn down their fat, and they turn out looking like old jerky. It works to keep them thin and toned but it makes them harsh and nasty looking.

And I think you're right about Secretary.

HGH has other side effects, but that's a topic for another day. The leathery look they cause is enough for now.

While admittedly not an avid film-goer, I'd agree that there seems to be a dearth of truly beautiful women on the silver screen these days. It's not that they aren't out there. I've attended two big auto shows in the last month, and many of the promotion girls were stunning. In Hollywood, not so much.

I recall the premise of the movie "Legally Blonde" is that the central character, supposedly a 10 on the beauty scale, is blonde and assumed to be dumb, until the plot unfolds to show her to be quite intelligent, though quite naive. For this part they cast Reese Witherspoon. She may be able to pull off showing that she's smart, but the casting failed in that Witherspoon is not by any stretch a 10.

I always thought Faye Dunaway was absolutely gorgeous.

1. They are all seen in 2 dimensions so actual looks are indiscernable.
2. They are expertly spackled & painted.
3. All blemishes, unappealing bumps & bulges are airbrushed & photoshopped away.
4. The lighting is done to enhance the illusion of beauty.
5. They are declared beautiful like Obama is called competent: by an adoring, worshipping media who are both ugly & incompetent.

First you gotta get them drunk. Then you gotta get drunk so they look good. Then you gotta find a bag.

Reese is really cute but she's not a stunning beauty like, say, Ingrid Bergman.

Its not that there aren't astounding beauties in Hollywood, its just that these women are not among them,

...Then you gotta get drunk so they look good...

Isn't there a country song like that, "I never went to bed with an ugly woman, but I sure woke up with a few"? If there isn't, there should be.
