Stephen Hawking: 'There are no black holes' In a paper posted online, the physicist, based at the University of Cambridge, UK, and one of the creators of modern black-hole theory, does away with the notion of an event horizon, the invisible boundary thought to shroud every black hole, beyond which nothing, not even light, can escape.

"A lot" of people do.

I thought I read that Hawkings took back what he said.

Does he have the kind of disability that would merit aborting the fetus in today's climate?

Hawkings is exhibit A of scientists going beyond what they can know and launching into amazing theoretical fancies. He's the guy that agreed something cannot come from nothing in the big bang, so his solution? Something came from nothing... gradually. Uh, yeahhh.

I'll bet there are more than a few of the Intelligentsia who will believe anything Hawking says, just because he's Hawking.

I have met people whose beliefs, at least regarding science, are completely determined by the majority opinion of mainstream scientists, or as they like to call it, "the scientific consensus". And they will ridicule anyone who disagrees with any part of it. Until the mainstream opinion changes, when suddenly their opinion changes to follow suit, of course. It's like they have no sense that there is an absolute reality out there, regardless of what scientific opinion may be. F**king morons.
