Well, that's it for me and The Big Bang Theory [Bumped]

Too bad. They were funny about three years ago.

Your Say

Anyone watching any show that needs a laugh track needs to get a neck-up check-up. Maybe Dr Scrotum or his nurse Testicles can figure out why the sense of humor is missing.

"Obamacare guy" sounds too manly, I prefer "coco-jammies boy."

Posted by: Potsie at December 23, 2013 3:59 AM

It was "Swaddled Manlet" a few items down.

Posted by: vanderleun at December 23, 2013 5:37 AM

Big Bang is still one of the few things worth watching. There's a difference between a nerd and a dweeb (manlet) swaddled or otherwise.
Melissa Rauch is worth the price of admission just by herself.

I never cared for Big Bang Theory. It was too obviously an entertainment writer's idea of what geeks are like and I just can't stand sitcoms on principle.

The few times I've had some moments with only low-priority things that can be done then, and have seen snippets of this show, I've found it to be so alien to real life and real people of my experience, that it held no interest at all. Some scientists and engineers may be odd ducks, but they are within the normal range, and we recognize them as still one of us. These guys are just … off. I guess there is an unspanned cultural gulf, between those who make their living weaving ethereal tapestries of words, and those who toil to discover and wrestle with uncaring matter.

To get this show you need a minimum of knowledge and intelligence, not to mention a functioning sense of humor. It requires a bit of attention and packs a lot into a half hour format.
It is certainly not for people with short attention spans and low IQs.

You do notice that if you take off his glasses and change his hair slightly suddenly this "geek" turns into a standard strong-jawed Hollywood icon. Not so much onesie lad.

Old Surfer, a show that fits your description ran years ago, called "My World and Welcome to It". Most people back then couldn't grasp the subtly.

Perhaps a rereading of James Thurber might give a meaning to humor.

LOL
You don't seem to understand how right you are.

Oh they re-made "The Odd Couple" show?

The uptight guy believes he is better and above everyone else. His roommate is more relaxed, has all the friends and looks disgusted at his roommate's antics.

It is the Odd Couple redone. What is there to get?

Posted by: Potsie at December 24, 2013 9:36 PM

I never watched or knew about "The Odd Couple". Did they discuss quantum theory? Was Schrodinger"s cat the basis for a series of one-liners? Was string theory responsible for a couple's breakup?
Didn't think so. Whatever, the show is not for the sort of people that watch the Kardashians or
American Idol. Those folk certainly would benefit from reading James Thurber, assuming they can read.

Sitcoms on TEEVEE are exactly for that kind of audience. It's appalling the level of decline the people of this country aspire to. There seems to be no bottom in this barrel.

Posted by: ghostsniper at December 25, 2013 3:09 PM

Old Surfer, stop kidding yourself, a standard sitcom did not discuss quantum theory on any serious level. Your TV is called an idiot box because idiots watch it. You want to believe you are better and smarter than a person who watches the Kardashians but you sit there, drool, and laugh at the antics of the actors on the screen just as they do.

Posted by: Potsie at December 25, 2013 4:55 PM

Talk about not getting it. I got just enough to know I didn't want any more of it. What is off-putting to me, is the deliberately false presented as reality. Like someone is telling me "This is the new normal. Get with it!".

Thank you, no. It's conditioning, as is the putdown, to get a person to either believe, or failing that, to get them to publicly accept, the false normal. I don't do that, I'll say what I think.

The words, are just the distracting fog to get the watching boobs to not notice that they're being had. You know, the boob tube.

Posted by: John A. Fleming at December 25, 2013 7:29 PM

Potsie, Lighten up, it's a fucking tv comedy show and has some really funny bits pretty regularly. If you prefer the Kardashians, go for it. Personally, I spend very little time watching tv, a bit more on the internet, and a whole lot of time in the shop designing and building stuff that makes other people happy and hopefully makes the world a better place.

Posted by: Old Surfer at December 26, 2013 8:29 AM

That's called back peddling, and it's pathetic.

Posted by: ghostsniper at December 26, 2013 6:22 PM

The cast has great chemistry, and there aren't a bunch of fags forced fed on the show, even though the main guy's gay in real life. I watch it when I come across it but don't make it a point to watch it.

They don't act like any EE or CS types that I've come across, and I've worked in the industry for years. A lot of engineers are sort of strange and socially dysfunctional, but they don't act like the weirdos on this program.
