I would have thought that the Secret Service would have some agents trained to at least understand sign language so that they would be able to discern if any persons in a crowd around the President were communicating imminent assassination instructions to one another via sign language. The lack of any such trained agents suggests incompetence in the Secret Service.

I too would not piss on the O if he were on fire. On the other hand, if I were a member of the Secret Service, I'd take a bullet for him purely out of professionalism and the fact that that would be my freaking job! I gotta believe that the SS folks were putting trust in the South African gubmint that they had vetted all their personnel. I would at least hope that the SS folks made sure that the guy carried no weapons.
