New Cannonball Run Record

To foil the police, he installed a switch to kill the rear lights and bought two laser jammers and three radar detectors.
He commissioned a radar jammer, but it wasn't finished in time for the trek. There was also a police scanner, two GPS units and various chargers for smartphones and tablets -- not to mention snacks, iced coffee and a bedpan. - - Neatorama

This is like that guy, ate all the Twinkies, right? A notable accomplishment serving no purpose other than to say "I did it".

I once built a model of the Eiffel Tower out of toothpicks. The flat kind. Didn't have to break any laws to do it either.

The article said they did this in 2007. Statute of limitations?

So they said they set the record. What organization certified it?

Peccable. They hired a GPS tracking company which verified the data. Here is another article.

Here a stunt that I'd like to see -- the day run. Start in Jacksonville at midnight on June 21, (or the Sunday closest to it)and see if you can reach the Pacific Ocean before the end of the day. That would mean going 2350 miles in 27 hours. That would be doable for these guys

Bigger challenge -- the daylight run. Start at one coast at first light and see if you can get to the opposite coast before the last light of sunset. On June 21, the day is 14 hours and 20 minutes long, Add about an hour for first and last light, plus three hours for the time zones, and you have about 18 and a half hours to go 2340 miles

That's only 25% faster than the record. C'mon guys, give it a try

I drove a 2010 rented Mustang all over the South for 9000 miles in 2010...but it sure took longer than 29 hours. Lordy.

And they managed to do it without killing themselves or - far worse - killing somebody else. How noteworthy.

I'm sure that they will make some money off of this, and there will be shameless fools who will pay them.
