“I wonder if he has the legal authority to do this?”.

That is the wrong question. The real problem is whether any future Republican president will be allowed to do the same thing, such as droning people without a due process, canceling contracts at press conferences, change the rules of whole industries at the stroke of a pen, or engage in harmless well meaningsecurities fraud, etc. Belmont Club サ The Dinosaurs Who Came To Dinner

"... The real problem is whether any future Republican president will be allowed to do the same thing, such as droning people without a due process..."

What a stupid question. Richard knows better than that.

"future Republican president"

Now that there is pretty damn funny.

When President Bush was doing stuff that the left squawked about being legally dubious, I tended to give him the benefit of the doubt, but there was a line I drew. When he crossed it I would complain just as loud about him as about Obama. I expect the left to give their guy the benefit of the doubt and presumption of goodwill, but where's their line? Is it even possible for him to go too far?

But I'm with Potsie here. Future Republican president? In an alternate reality, maybe.

The GOP is the new Whig Party.

See the mistake is presuming the losses will be because of any weakness or problems with the GOP. The losses won't be because the Republicans aren't good enough a party. It simply doesn't matter what or how they do it. They lose.
