Power

dearamericaorwell.jpg

We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.
Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship. The object of persecution is persecution. The object of torture is torture. The object of power is power. Now do you begin to understand me?' George Orwell - 1984 - Part 3, Chapter 3

I took out a copy of 1984 from the public library in 1962, and after reading it was terrified to realize I would probably be alive in 1984.

It was with apprehension that I I watched the year of 1984 approach. I was afraid that some cataclysmic event would occur to usher in this world.
I now realize it is a slow drift and a cultural rot that is ushering in our 1984. The foundation was laid by the media and continues to be spearheaded by them.

The NYT and other media did not expose New Deal legislation, the rise of Nazi Germany or the truth about concentration camps. My father said that as the GI 's "liberated" peoples and camps, that it came as a total shock even though he was in Europe 3 1/2 years. Should we purchase or consume purveyors of NewsSpeak ?

Many on the left despised Orwell when he was alive, he kept fighting them for liberty and against tyranny even then. They didn't listen to him while he was alive, why listen now?
