Dies irae

blackvestment.jpg

Without the Black Mass, without the black vestments, without the clarion call to repentance, of course the churches empty out. Why bother listening to preachers who are not sure what they have to say? Who dress a part they cannot play? Who, standing even before the altar, turn their backs towards our Christ. And play their nursery tunes, & speak as if we were a kindergarten class. David Warren, Essays in Idleness

Your Say

What it comes down to this: if you don't have the balls to say what you believe in and stand for what your faith teaches, why should anyone listen to you or care what you have to say?

If you are more interested in what the world thinks than God does, why would anyone waste their time on you? They can get what they want and not go to church once a week.

If you are luke warm God will spit you out, but so will the world. Pathetic, meaningless, without savor, without purpose.

All the praise bands and pull down screens and light shows and motorcycles up the center aisle and men's days and special events in the world are not going to make up for this. Spectacle cannot compensate for a lack of integrity and meaning.

Chris, your words led me to the first three chapters of Revelation, the letters to the churches, specifically the letter to the Church of the Laodiceans. He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says unto the churches.

Thanks for the lift this fine Sunday morning.

It is a time of the "unraveling". This has been going on in ALL the social structures in our life. Religion, education, military, political, economic and even scientific institutions reached their peak in the mid to late 60's and have been devolving since. One would hope the bottom is not too far off. Can we survive all the rule breaking?

At the risk of sounding hysterical and end timesy... Revelation does say Satan will be unchained right before the end. I don't subscribe to the lurid schemes and theories of the Left Behind sort, but there's something goin' on.
